Practice Profile

Elizabeth specialises in Family Law. She is reputed for her strong advocacy skills and her pragmatic approach to dealing with even the most difficult of cases.

Elizabeth is instructed on a broad spectrum of family matters. She has experience in both high- and low-value financial remedy cases, from advising prior to the issue of applications through to final hearings. She also has considerable expertise dealing with possible complicating features such as interveners, foreign assets, company accounts, and conduct issues. She has been involved in a number of mediated agreements and is happy to be involved from an early stage in order to promote settlement. She is renowned for giving firm and reasoned advice.

Elizabeth is also regularly instructed in Children Act proceedings, for both private and public law applications. This includes lengthy fact findings, which have included representing parties accused of causing non-accidental injury to children, and of being perpetrators of sexual abuse. She is proficient in dealing with both lay and expert witnesses in such complex cases. She also frequently deals with applications in intractable contact disputes and to move with children to live elsewhere in the UK or abroad. This includes issues of child abduction. She regularly appears at all court levels, from the Family Proceedings Court to the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Additionally, Elizabeth has extensive experience of advising on TOLATA claims arising out of cohabitation or joint purchases of property. She is able to provide well thought through advice at an early stage to try and settle such claims, but is not afraid to advise and proceed with the matter to Court if settlement is unachievable. She also deals with Inheritance Act claims, particularly at the key stages of analysing any potential proceedings and trying to negotiate settlements.
