Property and construction

Our highly regarded property team advises on a wide range of property disputes, from complex and technical land law disputes to construction disputes to landlord and tenant cases. We are particularly experienced at dealing with regulatory issues, especially those relating to Houses of Multiple Occupation and can represent clients in both the civil and criminal courts.

Our barristers regularly appear in the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal as well as the specialist Land Registration Tribunal (First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber)). In regulatory matters, we also appear in the Magistrates Court. A number of our barristers are qualified arbitrators, and represent clients in arbitration proceedings as well as acting as arbitrators themselves.

We represent clients in a wider range of land law disputes, and advise on complex property rights relating to title, easements, restrictive covenants and trusts of land. We frequently advise on disputes over the ownership of property, particularly those arising from relationship breakdown where we work closely with our family team so that clients get a seamless service.

We advise on all aspects of building and engineering disputes – from disputes over the contract terms (JCT or otherwise) to arguments relating to the quality of work carried out and associated professional negligence proceedings.

We act for landlords and tenants of residential and commercial properties, taking and defending claims for possession, advising on disrepair claims and deposit protection. In commercial property cases we also advise on break clauses and lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act.
